Liverpool Roller Birds

We flew into existence in November 2009, offering people of all shapes, sizes, and experience levels the chance to get involved in roller derby.

Our mission is to compete at the highest level, both locally and internationally, while increasing visibility and access to the sport in our community and beyond.

Our A and B teams regularly play public games across the UK and overseas, representing our league with pride and passion.

We’re committed to supporting our skaters, officials, and volunteers in reaching their full potential. Equality, diversity, and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do.

As a WFTDA-aligned league, we welcome new members from all walks of life. Our training is designed to suit all abilities, and we actively encourage complete beginners to give it a try.

We believe in learning, having fun, and celebrating the unique community that makes up our Roller Bird family.

It can be daunting coming into a large league, but everyone is lovely, talented, supportive, and all round brilliant. Liverpool Roller Birds has brought me so much joy and friendship both on and off skates, joining was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

As a queer woman in a bigger body, I’ve often felt excluded from traditional fitness spaces, but at LRB I immediately felt welcomed and challenged. Every single skater and coach is so welcoming and supportive.

Everyone is so welcoming and I’ve learned so much already in the year I’ve been training with the league. Derby is a challenging sport, but that’s what makes it so rewarding when you gain new skills and confidence. I’ve made friends that I’ll keep for life.

I had asked one important question before attending my first training session – was I too old for this? The answer was quickly forthcoming – no, you are not. I joined to skate and I’ve learned so much, but I’ve also found a great bunch of new friends along the way.

Everyone is constantly rooting for each other. Our scrims are full of cheers for each other when we see a beautiful bit of footwork or a great hit. This has just always been the ethos at LRB ever since I joined.
