There’s no doubt that roller derby and perceptions of the sport have changed SO much since its revival in Texas in 2001. While the sport’s bold spirit still remains, fishnets are (mostly?!) a thing of the past and the sport has really ‘grown up’.
We’d existed as league since 2009 with Priscilla, our rollergirl logo, representing us. We felt that this year was the right time for a change, to have a new brand and vision to reflect the sport’s development and our own ethos.
We wanted our new logo and brand to be in line with our drive to become a team committed to improvement, to each other and to increasing the visibility of roller derby in the UK.
Our PR team gathered together the feedback of our league about what key words they felt best represented Liverpool Roller Birds. This helped us to create a new logo and set of brand values that show what we have achieved and what we will continue to achieve as a strong, smart and competitive league.
The Liver Birds are our namesake and one of the most famous landmarks in the city we call home and we were super proud to wear them on our chests for the first time, as we skated out for our rebrand game on Saturday 25 March 2017.
We had a fantastic day, with our Sisters of Mersey playing Dublin Roller Derby’s B team and our Yellow Shovemarines taking to the track against Bristol Roller Derby’s B team.
Our uniforms, flag, pop-ups and new merch were all looking sharp – check out the pics below.
